COLUMBUS, Neb. — Nebraska Public Power District says 16 of its line technicians will join efforts to restore power in New Jersey.

The team was dispatched last week to help areas of West Virginia left powerless by Superstorm Sandy, which spawned heavy snow and blizzard conditions.

NPPD said Monday that the West Virginia work has been completed, so the line techs were scheduled to report Tuesday to Central Jersey Power and Light. The new mission: help return electricity to about 400,000 customers along the Atlantic coastline.

Other Nebraska utility workers have joined the emergency efforts, too.

Seven Lincoln Electric System workers have been sent to help Long Island Power Authority in Long Island, NY, and seven employees of Omaha Public Power District have been sent to help Con Edison in New York City.
