LOWDOWN: After finishing fourth making her debut in a stakes at Finger Lakes, Kelli Got Frosty dropped into the maiden ranks at Belmont Park, got first-time Lasix and romped by 14 lengths going 1 1/16 miles. She did it over a muddy, sealed track like the one she might encounter today, and we love the cutback in distance.

EMPIRE CLASSIC

Belmont Park, ninth race. Purse: $250,000. 1 ¹/‚ˆ miles, New York-bred 3-year-olds and up. Post: 5:13 p.m.

LOWDOWN: Lunar Victory, who dominated five races in a row going two turns, took a while to find his best stride cutting back to a one-turn mile last out, and though he closed stoutly through the final furlong, he fell a half-length short to the hard-hitting Saginaw. The added distance today certainly works to Lunar Victory's favor, and he is reunited with jockey Junior Alvarado, who rode him in those five straight wins.

MOHAWK

Belmont Park, 10th race. Purse: $175,000. 1 1/16 miles, turf, New York-bred 3-year-olds and up. Post: 5:46 p.m.

LOWDOWN: Lubash, second in this race last year to Compliance Officer, is coming off two straight wins in which he beat Compliance Officer, including the Ashley Cole at this distance over a yielding course at Belmont — conditions that figure to prevail once again in this spot.

LAST WEEK: At Belmont Park, Boisterous won the Knickerbocker paying $4.10, $3.10, $2.50; at Keeneland, Stephanie's Kitten (2-1) was sixth in the Queen Elizabeth; at Santa Anita, Holladay Road (4-1) was sixth in the Cal Cup Classic.
