BOE blunder leaves Bay Ridge voters confused, worried about Election Day

A blunder by the city's Board of Elections has thousands of voters in Bay Ridge thinking they'll need to schlep nearly 7 miles into a high-crime area of Brooklyn if they want to vote in the presidential election.

The BOE sent out a notice dated Oct. 12 to 6,000 Bay Ridge registered voters informing them their designated poll site is Our Savior's Lutheran Church "located at 2781 Pitkin Avenue."

The Bay Ridge church is actually at 414 86th St. while the incorrect Pitkin Avenue address is for PS 159 — a polling site for some East New York residents.

"It's so confusing, but the Board of Elections has become such a mess that it shouldn't come as a surprise," said a Brooklyn political operative yesterday. "Hopefully no elderly people are going to be taking the bus to Pitkin Avenue. "

The notice was delivered because the church isn't compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and it said physically disabled voters have a right to request another designated poll site.

When contacted, a BOE spokeswoman said the agency would send out new notices "immediately" to voters who got the earlier mailer, informing them of the error and giving the correct address.

Many voters citywide are already confused about where they need to go to vote because election district lines were recently redrawn.
